your baby is only born once.

Birth Photography

Picture this… You finally hold your baby on your chest and you look over at your partner, his face is pure love.

You look at your baby with his eyes wide open, searching for mummy.

Hi sweetie, nice to finally meet you.

Would you want that image captured, to keep forever?

If your answer is yes, then we are about to become friends!

Birth Photography is what I am devoted to and I feel so passionate about bringing this service to all families in the Whitsundays. I wish every family has access to a Birth Photographer and can include one in their birth team, but I know it is a huge investment. This is a day you will never forget, and you are sure to never regret having it captured.
Mama, You deserve to have your birthing-day documented. To see yourself in your full power. Your baby deserves it too.

One of my favourite things to capture during a birth is the connection between you and partner. Bringing babies to the world is such hard work and it takes teamwork.

“THANKYOU!

We are so grateful to have had Louise with us on our journey throughout the birth of our son. Louise you captured so many memories we will cherish for ever and for that you have a special place in our hearts.

From the first time we met you, the entire experience was exceptional, the quality and care in your images partnered with the simple process all the way to receiving our amazing birth story.

If your thinking about having a birth photographer we couldn’t recommend Louise more!”

FAQs

How does it all work?

During your pregnancy we will keep in touch and get to know each-other. It starts with a consultation, where I get to treat you to coffee and chat about your birth plan and other birthy stuff. I prefer to meet in person at least once to make sure we are a good match and to answer any questions you may have. It is so important to me that you feel comfortable having me in your birth space, and I do not want to be a stranger!

When will you go on-call?

I am all yours from 38 weeks, day and night, until your baby is born. Ready with my bags at the door!

When will you start documenting?

I will arrive at the hospital once you are in active labour unless you would like me to arrive earlier.

Once I have arrived, I will start documenting. My time with you is not limited, so whether your birth takes 4 hours or 24 hours I will remain with you. Depending on how you are progressing up until birth I will be present in your room but trust me, you will barely notice I’m there! Nothing will be posed. I will also step out of the room during checks or if you wish to have a private moment.

What will you be photographing?

Ah.. everything! I would much rather cover everything so you can decide on the images you want to keep, rather than skipping a few “shots” and you regretting later that you didn’t get them. Examples are: last stages of labour, support person and connection between you, birth of baby (crowning), first breath, first meeting, first feed, birth of placenta, the cord and placenta details, first cuddle with daddy, baby checks with dr, baby details such as toes, face, hands, and family time with siblings.

What if I don’t want my images shared?

Absolutely - I always respect your wishes. I don’t publish anything before you have seen your images and approved! I love sharing birth images as they are the most powerful and beautiful, but I keep most of them private. If there are particular images you want to keep private just let me know!

How long will it take until we get our images?

After the birth I will make sure you get a sneak peak within 24 hrs. This is usually a handful of images!

The rest of your gallery will take 2-4 weeks. I believe it is important to “rest” the birth and let it sink in, before you get to live through it again with your images.
Looking back, it will make you cry. It will make you feel soo many things. It’s powerful stuff!

What about after the birth?

Once baby is born I will stay with you for up to 2 hours. This moment is so very special as the room fills with love, oxytocin and relief that your baby is finally here! So much to soak in as you start to get to know your baby during this golden hour.

What is included in your birth package?

My Birth Photography package includes our initial consultation, my on-call time from 38 weeks until birth, unlimited coverage during labour, birth and golden hour, sneak peek images within 24 hrs, all digital images in high resolution (usually 100-250 images) and a Bonus $100 print credit to make your images into something stunning!

What happens if I have an emergency cesarean?

In case of any cesarean (planned or emergency) I might not be allowed into theatre. This is at the discretion of the medical staff on the day.

So far, I have been allowed in almost every time!

What if we end up having our birth documented, but have a traumatic experience?

I believe photos can help tremendously with processing what happened with your birth. It could connect the dots, clear the unclear, help you understand and see what and why things happened. To help you heal and accept. And move on. It might take you weeks or months before you can even look at them. But they will help. And you will never regret having images of your baby first breath.

What if you miss the birth?

It is possible but as soon as I go on-call, I am prepared. It is also important for you to know when to contact me. This will be discussed at our consultation and will also be in your welcome guide.
Sometimes life happens… if I’m unable to attend your birth due to illness, emergencies, sick kids, ect - fear not! I can usually organise a back-up photographer.

Do you use flash?

I do and I don’t. Depending on the light situation where you are labouring, if it is day or night, I will evaluate if a flash is needed. You can request NO FLASH if you like. I will also check with you before I turn it on to make sure it is ok and would stop using it if it disturbs you. I will always try to be as invisible as possible in your birth space.

Please note that if there is no light in the room there will be dark images… so I might need to create a gentle light by turning on a bathroom light etc. Or pop on the flash and see what you think.

“As being first time parents my partner and I were so glad we decided to have additional support for the birth of our baby girl. Louise is absolutely amazing! During the last few weeks of my pregnancy, she was there to answer any questions I had and she checked on me frequently. I wanted to labor unmedicated for as long as possible and she definitely helped me get as far as I did. She was nothing but supportive and reassuring. She stayed with us every step of the way. Once we got home, she continued to check on us, making sure we were doing well with our new baby. She also checked on my emotional well being which was great! Not only was Louise supportive to my partner and I throughout our whole experience, she was also able to capture all our precious moments that we will cherish forever. Louise provides nothing but exceptional quality care, love and support and we could not recommend her enough. She will always have a special place in our hearts ❤️ ”
