What does on-call mean??

Oh how I love my job. Birth photography & Doula work is so incredibly rewarding, with the most grateful families in the end!

Birth Photography is a very unique service to offer and it is different to any other kind of photography. You can not book in and plan this one beforehand. You don’t get a re-do if you muck it up.

On-call work is special.  I love the excitement of getting the call ANYTIME. It’s so unpredictable, which makes it really hard, too.

You can only be prepared and ready to go at any given time, to be there for your clients to capture a once-in-a-lifetime moment! And to jump in to support them in the middle of the night, ready to squeeze those hips or provide counter pressure, or to make dad an extra strong coffee.

It is as far as a 9-5 Monday -Friday job you can get. It is highly unpredictable and can be very intense. Babies don’t care about your schedule or if its Christmas Day, if its 2 am or if its a Sunday. This is also why it is so exciting, because you just don’t know.

I go on-call from 37 weeks with all my birth clients. This means I can be on-call for up to 5 weeks per birth!
So what does on-call mean??

This is what it means to me.

  • It means full dedication to my clients

  • It means being prepared day or night

  • It means having daycare and babysitting on standby

  • It means no holidays or trips too far away

  • It means not booking important appointments in case I need to reschedule

  • It means being flexible with my work schedule and other sessions

  • It means I might miss family events, holidays, birthdays etc

  • It means I have my phone on and loud 24/7

  • It means having my bags packed at the door and car fuelled up

  • It means being away from family

  • It means staying healthy and well

  • It means having camera equipment charged and ready

On call also means I am at your service when you need me, full of excitement and loving energy as nothing beats being there for YOU on your big day, capturing the most incredible moments of your life and providing you all my support and love.

I love what I do.

Me and my girls which are my biggest challenge when it comes to on-call life.
